About MCADWorks
The premise is simple–take our students out of the classroom and into the community. MCADWorks brings undergraduates together with small businesses, nonprofits, government agencies, and corporations to apply the tools of art and design in service to meeting client-identified needs. We harness the creativity of our students and channel it into problem solving, development of innovative and actionable solutions, and production of meaningful work that benefits the community.
MCADWorks serves as a coordinator of sponsored education projects throughout the college. We offer a variety of approaches to working with organizations, ranging from sponsored studio classes, hiring our in-house design firm MCAD DesignWorks, and commissioned projects completed via internships and fellowships.
MCADWorks is based on the foundation of building mutually-beneficial relationships between the college, its students, and our community partners. Clients benefit from working with students who understand emerging trends for youth demographics and gain access to an upcoming talent pool for potential recruiting. Art and design students are not afraid to experiment with nontraditional approaches, and collaboration with a creative group can kick-start an organization’s own embedded innovative potential.
Students, in turn, gain valuable experience in working on real-world problems, they learn how to work in interdisciplinary teams to produce holistic solutions, and are trained on the mechanics of conducting research, developing and presenting their work, and interacting with clients. These skills prepare them to succeed in their chosen creative fields upon graduation.
